Duterte 'happy to slaughter' drug suspects; mentions Hitler

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday drew a parallel between his deadly crime war and Hitler's massacre of Jews, saying he was "happy to slaughter" millions of drug addicts. "There are. I'd be happy to slaughter them", Duterte said early on Friday on his arrival in Davao City after a visit to Vietnam.

"Hitler massacred three million Jews. there's three million drug addicts".

"If Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have ...", he said, pausing and pointing to himself. "I would like (them) to be all criminals to finish the problem of my country and save the next generation from perdition", he said during the press conference early on Friday.

According to the Philippines national police, more than 3,000 drug-related killings have been reported since Duterte assumed office June 30.

China on Thursday voiced support for the Philippine government's efforts to crack down on drug-related crimes, despite criticism by some countries and human rights organizations of drug-related killings in the Southeast Asian country.

His comments were criticised as "outrageous" by Jewish groups, Reuters reports. He's joked about not being able to join the gang rape of an Australian missionary, cursed out the Pope, called both US President Obama and the US Ambassador to the Philippines a "son of a bitch", and told police they can kill drug dealers if they fight back.

Two days before the Philippines election, outgoing President Benigno Aquino had warned that Duterte's rising popularity was akin to that of Hitler in the 1920s and 1930s.

Duterte has said his public death threats against drug suspects are created to scare them into stop selling drugs and to discourage would-be users. "But I was never into or I am never into hypocrisy like you", he said.

Duterte also said that joint exercises of Filipino and American troops next week will be the last, although his foreign secretary quickly said the decision was not final.

The chief executive argued that both the European Union and the USA have closed its doors to migrants from the Middle East.

"You're anxious about the death of about 1,000, 2,000, 3,000", Duterte said in a speech early on Friday, referring to the number of people killed since he launched his war on illegal drugs.
