Other names that made the cut include Gabriel, Kamil, Oisin (Oh-sheen) and Valerie.

Met √Čireann and the Met Office have revealed the names chosen for storms over the next 12 months, in the second year of their "name our storms" project.

Emma Sharples said: "Next week will see deeper Atlantic systems coming in, and although nothing severe is showing at the moment, if a storm merits being named, we'll bring the start of the naming period forward from October 1".

The British public submitted roughly 10,000 names last year when the project was launched and the Met Office has returned to those suggestions once again for this year's list.

The public have again suggested names for wind storms with the potential to cause substantial impacts.

They are among 21 names which will be given to the weather systems which have the most potential to cause problems across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Although this year - possibly fearing a Gusty McHailface scenario - the Met Office have not gone to a public vote, the next year's storms have still been named.

"A YouGov survey based on the first seven storms showed that 55% of those surveyed took steps to prepare for stormy weather after hearing that a storm had been named".

"We hope that naming storms in line with the official severe weather warnings here will ensure everyone can keep themselves, their property and their business safe and protected at times of severe weather".

Gerald Fleming, Head of Forecasting at Met √Čireann said: "The naming helped us to clearly distinguish between them, and delineate their likely impacts".

The list includes traditional Scottish names such as Ewan, Robert and Angus, as well as more unusual options such as Ivor, Wilbert, Fleur and Doris.
