Calderon contribution vital as Hawks tie series

Guard John Wall one of the only Wizards getting to the free throw line in the series pleads with an official during Game 2

- Veteran point guard Jose Calderon made a huge difference for Atlanta as Dennis Schroder battled foul trouble all night. Gortat has continued to rebound well, he had 18 in Game 4, but after scoring 14 points in each of the first two games he's been limited to two points in each of the last two. On Monday night, Calderon was thrown into a hard situation when starting point guard Dennis Schroder picked up his third personal foul late in the first half and had to leave the game.

The Hawks and Wizards, meanwhile, are now assured of going at least six games, with Game Five on Wednesday in Washington.

Serge Ibaka scored 19 points and DeMar DeRozan had 18 for the Raptors, who can advance to face defending champion Cleveland in the second round with a victory in Game 6 at Milwaukee on Thursday night. Yes, we said Jose Calderon. "He was a big part of their win tonight".

Game Five will be played today (tomorrow morning, Singapore time) at Washington. If it's the Bucks, it's the young up and coming team with Matthew Dellavedova returning to the Q and the team that made him an National Basketball Association player - and champion.

Calderon was not supposed to be with the Hawks. Calderon then signed with Atlanta and has been a valuable backup and occasional tutor for the mercurial Schroder.

Prince and Schroder are both 23, giving the Hawks a great young duo. He was 6 of 15 from the field and 4 of 4 at the line with three rebounds. So is Markieff Morris, who's so nettled by Paul Millsap that he has more fouls (19) than baskets (16).

After snatching an offensive rebound, Millsap managed to get the shot off while being knocked on his backside, the ball dropped in, and he added the free throw for a 3-point play.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 30 points and nine rebounds. That must have been heartening for Raps fans after his miserable game three, and they will be looking for more of the same. Paul is in a good place. It's just a matter of how we retaliate and how we bounce back from it. The series will last a minimum of six games. Golden State jumped to a 22-3 lead while setting a franchise playoff record for points in a first quarter with 45.

Overall, the Warriors shot 53 percent from the floor and 17-of-29 from behind the arc.

After averaging 13.4 points (third on the Wizards) on 43.4 percent shooting from three during the regular season, Porter has been limited to seven points on 25 percent three-point shooting in the playoffs. Atlanta had four other players in double figures: Dwight Howard with 16 points and 15 rebounds, Kent Bazemore with 16 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. with 15 and Taurean Prince with 11.

After a rough start to the series in Washington, the Atlanta Hawks were staring at a possible sweep if they didn't make quick adjustments.

Instead of further progress after a 35-point first quarter, Washington reverted to the out-of-sync blend it was in the first quarter Saturday. He nailed a three-pointer to push Atlanta's lead up to double digits with 1:47 left. The enigmatic center had thunderous dunks on back-to-back possessions that really got the home crowd into the game. The Hawks had a response for every Wizards comeback attempt, and that showed in the final score, and throughout the game. Their collective defensive effort in the second and fourth quarters was outstanding. He's been making a lot of tough shots, but we'd rather have that than Marcin getting those easy buckets and getting into a rhythm.

Toronto lost Game 6 on the road at IN in the first round and at Miami IN the second round previous year, rebounding to win Game 7 at home each time.

The series will move back to Washington for Game 5. Atlanta briefly built a five-point lead but could not take control.
