Google Home now supports multiple users

Google Home Gets Three More IoT Partners

Google said multiple-user support will roll out today in the United States, and in the United Kingdom in the "coming months". Two weeks later and we're now learning that Google is putting that feature into their "Google Home" devices, as of today.

We asked Google how confident it was in its ability to distinguish users only by voice: "We've worked hard to make the Assistant work well for you and we're excited for users to start hearing their music, news and more". Google doesn't think the technology is necessary on phones because most of those devices are password-protected and are usually used by just one person. The feature is expected to be made available to users in the United States first, but it is expected to eventually expand to the UK in the coming months. Find your Home, then select Link your account.

When talking to your Google Home, you'll no longer be just some anonymous voice.

Google says that the feature - most likely included in an update - will start rolling out today in the USA, and will reach the United Kingdom in the coming months.

Nearly ten days ago we told you that multi-user support coming to the Google Home was inevitable. Every time someone activates Google Home, a neural network (in other words, a type of software that gets better over time) will perform an analysis that compares the voice input to those initial setup recordings.

Users simply say "OK Google" and "Hey Google" two times each, which are then analyzed by a neural network that is created to recognize certain characteristics of a person's voice. "From a voice control perspective, the Google Assistant was a no-brainer".

Multi User Feature is now starts rolling out in USA only. The comparison takes place inside your Google Home, in a matter of milliseconds.

Unfortunately, this feature rollout, while useful, still doesn't fix one of Google Home's biggest flaw: being limited to only one calendar, the main calendar associated with your Google profile.

Google's voice-activated assistant, Google Home is now able to understand who is speaking to it. Thanks to a new update released yesterday, it can recognize up to 6 voices.
