Facebook CEO, wife celebrate 5th anniversary with Maine hike

Mark Zuckerberg visits Millinocket; gives shout out to BPD's Duck of Justice

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is seeking to throw water on speculation of a presidential bid, saying he is not running for public office.

Gisele Borghani (bor-GAHN'-ee) says she and her family were walking to the beach Sunday when they almost ran into Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan.

Facebook's algorithms now focus on connecting you to "people you may know" and have been blamed for giving users' the unfounded perception that most other people hold political and social views similar to their own, but CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants to move past that and strengthen the social network's community by connecting users to people they should know. "They were just minding their own business like two normal people".

The couple and their organization's education director, Jim Shelton, also met Monday with Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo to talk about personalized learning.

The 33-year-old Facebook co-founder addressed rumors that he was considering entering politics after he started a multi-state tour earlier this year.

But even before the outright denial Sunday night, both experts and people who worked with Zuckerberg expressed doubt the executive has the temperament - or even the interest - in running for political office.

According to Borghani, Chan was still wearing her new ME hat.

In his message Sunday, Zuckerberg said his public appearances have included meetings with recovering heroin addicts, juvenile detainees and community leaders in disadvantages parts of the country.

Zuckerberg noted that Facebook has focused on helping users connect with people they already know.

Zuckerberg says that he wants to understand how to improve people's social networks with strong positive role models to help the humanitarian work his charity arm, the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative, does, and definitely not because a cross-country tour across the melting pot of America looks great for someone who may eventually need the support of the American electorate.
