Lucasfilm announces that Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber is now officially Rey's

View 1 Item

Lucasfilm story group executive Pablo Hidalgo has confirmed that the former lightsaber belonging to Anakin Skywalker, later used by his son Luke, has now been rebranded as Rey's. The change begins with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as the lightsaber will presumably become Rey's go-to weapon.

Fans will have to wait to see exactly how she hangs onto the blade and whether or not Luke still has his green bladed lightsaber first seen in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi when the Skywalker saga returns this Holiday season. The blue lightsaber he was using before then, which belonged to Anakin and was crafted between the events of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, was lost during a battle with his father in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back.

The iconic lightsaber initially owned by Anakin Skywalker portrayed by Hayden Christensen, has officially found its third and latest possessor in Rey brought to life by Daisy Ridley.

So, Lucasfilm is already dubbing that lightsaber "Rey's", even though she hands it to Luke at the end of TFA-it looks like it might be sticking with her for the long haul (and apparently through what will hopefully be a crapton of Rey-centric marketing)! Rey might have last been seen handing the blade over to Luke in The Force Awakens, but she's actually going to be holding onto it herself for the foreseeable future, if Lucasfilm has anything to say about it. "Unless she gets her hand cut off and loses it, that is". I mean, after all, it is the second entry in a Star Wars movie trailer.

Hidalgo didn't offer specifics but did offer something of a clue.
