RSS worker killing: 2 being quizzed, 7 attackers identified

RSS leader accused in murder case of CPI-M worker hacked to death in Kannur

With the gruesome murder of Biju, once again, the ruling CPI (M) has reiterated that the party is reluctant to put down arms in Kannur and support the peace initiatives, he added. Rineesh had close links with CPM worker C V Dhanaraj who was killed past year.

On Sunday morning, the police seized the Innova auto suspected to be used by the gang. The police had registered a case against around 20 BJP and RSS workers in the murder, and 15 people had been arrested in 2016.

Friday, an RSS worker Choorakad Biju was allegedly killed by a CPI (M) activist at Kannur district of Kerala.

The deceased, RSS Kakkampara Mandal Karyavahak Biju was attacked by a group of assailants. He was forcefully dragged out of a bus, he was travelling in and was hacked to death. "Biju died on the spot and his friend Rajesh took to heels", said the police.

Alleging the BJP was threatening Governor P Sathasivam for not toeing its line, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the the demand for invoking AFPSA in Kannur will not be accepted by anyone with common sense.

Condemning the rising political killings in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President, K. Rajasekharan accused the Pinarayi Vijayan-led state government of unleashing violence in the state to silence the opposition.

Her outburst came a day after BJP'S state unit submitted a memorandum to the Governor, seeking action and to declare Kannur a disturbed area and to impose AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) there to maintain law and order. BJP in Kannur and nearby Mahe called for dawn-to-dusk hartal today.

"It is highly condemnable and despicable that the State Police and State machinery remain as silent spectators while the CPI (M) cadres are on killing spree towards Swayamsevaks in Kannur and other places", the RSS charged, demanding Kerala Police bring all murderers and conspirators to book.
