Senate Intelligence Committee Subpoenas Michael Flynn for Russia-Related Documents

CNN: Grand jury subpoenas issued in FBI's Russia investigation

The scope of the committee's investigation includes looking into whether any members of the 2016 presidential campaigns had ties to Russian Federation.

An attorney for former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has declined to comment on the issuance of a subpoena from the Senate intelligence committee. If Flynn doesn't respond, he could potentially face a maximum of a year in jail and a $100,000 fine for contempt of Congress.

Flynn has previously sought immunity, a request backed by Trump in a tweet. The committee rejected his request. Flynn has reportedly offered to testify in the probe into ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation in exchange for immunity from prosecution.

Flynn was sacked by Trump in February after less than a month on the job. Those letters, which were almost identical, sought emails, text messages, letters, phone records or any other relevant information they have about meetings or contacts that they or any other individual affiliated with the Trump campaign had with Russian officials or representatives of Russian business interests.

It was reported Wednesday that other records have been subpoenaed by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Alexandria, Virginia, from Flynn's business associates who worked on contracts with his consulting firm the Flynn Intel Group.

He says the former FBI Director James Comey's firing will in no way deter the committee from finding out the truth.

He is also the senior Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee. Each has offered to testify in Congressional probes.

Trump has repeatedly denounced as "fake news" the accusations that members of his circle coordinated or colluded with Russian officials.

The White House said he misled Vice President Mike Pence and other top officials about his communications with Russia's ambassador to the United States.

"The first thing we did was to explain to Mr. McGahn that the underlying conduct that Gen. Flynn has engaged in was problematic in and of itself", Yates said.
