Snapchat users can now collaborate on Stories

Snapchat just introduced custom Stories

Starting today, you'll see new "rings" at the top of the Explore feed showing you stories taking place near your physical location - a city, for example. These Stories come from people that've used location stickers in their Stories. Tap into it and you'll see public stories that were tagged with that location ("San Francisco").

However, if you want to use a location or hashtag sticker but do not want your story to appear on Explore, Instagram has got you covered.

Supermodels Jasmine Tookes, Martha Hunt and Barbara Palvin appear in a new promo spot for the social network's "Custom Stories" feature.

Likewise, hashtag stories, which will launch "over the coming weeks" will pull from anyone who posts a photo or video with a hashtag to their Story. But once you do submit it, Snapchat will look at the text captions, emojis, stickers, lenses, geolocation, and meta data plus use machine vision to detect objects or scenes in the Snap to algorithmically index it for search.

The move comes amid rival Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) copying essentially all of Snapchat's key features, integrating them on its namesake platform as well as on Facebook-owned Instagram. In addition, users can add a Geofence to the story for location.

Instagram created a carbon copy of Snapchat stories past year, but now the company is making them far more discoverable. Now there's even more to experience.

The updates should roll out in about a day to iOS and Android users, according to a Snapchat spokesperson. The new feature isn't geofenced. It allows users to select the audiences that are permitted to see and add to a story. Your stories will be shared only if your account is set to public (that is, you have not toggled on Private Account in the settings menu). Facebook recently added "Stories" to its flagship app.
