What we know about Manchester attacker Salman Abedi and his family

Armed troops are to guard nuclear power plants in Scotland and other sensitive sites across the United Kingdom, as the police said they were now investigating a "network" linked to the Manchester bomber, writes The Herald.

Ariana Grande has called off two London concerts and five in Europe after a suicide bomber killed 22 people at her performance in Manchester, England, the US pop singer's representatives said on Wednesday.

The bomb used in the Manchester attack Monday combined an explosive charge with shrapnel of nuts and screws meticulously arranged for maximum damage, according to photographs published by the New York Times.

Jomana Abedi, 18, has spoken out after her 22-year-old brother killed 22 people with a suicide attack on an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena on Monday. They said at any one time there could be 3,000 subjects of interest to MI5 and Abedi was part of "a large pool" classed in that category.

The Deterrence Force said on its Facebook page that "investigation teams supplied intelligence that he was planning a terrorist attack in the capital Tripoli".

But members of the Libyan immigrant community reported to local authorities that they feared Salman was turning increasingly radical, two friends of the family said.

The Scottish Sun features an image of a young girl in the arms of a police officer in the hours after the Manchester bombing and says the child lost her mother, Michelle Kiss, to the blast.

Abedi's father and brother were also arrested by anti-terrorism authorities in Libya. "Initial searches of premises have revealed items that we believe are very important to the investigation".

Investigators are focused on tracking down associates of Abedi, a British-born national of Libyan descent, saying it is clear they are investigating a network.

The Courier also reports that military personnel will not patrol Scotland's streets under the anti-terror plans enacted in the wake of the Manchester attack.

Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said the leaks were "arrogant, wrong and disrespectful to Greater Manchester".

Armed police officers stand near the Manchester Arena, where US singer Ariana Grande had been performing on Tuesday.

Britain's National Police Chiefs' Council warned Wednesday that leaks of potential evidence "undermine our investigations".

Yvette Cooper said she was very troubled by the leaks amidst a "live investigation where public safety at risk", while Lilian Greenwood asked, "What is the Government doing with U.S. counterparts to address these breaches?"

The Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership said on Wednesday that as many as 119 people had been injured in the attack, 64 of whom remain hospitalised, 20 of them critically.

Hopkins told reporters eight men had been arrested at addresses in Manchester, Wigan and Nuneaton.

Authorities say 22 people died and almost 120 were wounded in the bombing of the arena where American pop star Ariana Grande was performing. With two weeks to go until the June 8 election, it's likely to be a different style of campaign after the worst terrorist attack on British soil in more than a decade. The US singer had been scheduled to perform two shows at London's O2 arena this week.

The father and younger brother of the suspect in the Manchester concert bombing have been detained in Libya, where anti-terror authorities said the brother confessed to knowing "all the details" of the deadly plot.

The attack killed 22 people, all of whom have now been identified by police but their names will be released during the course of this week after formal identifications are complete.
