Comey OK'd to testify; House committee issues subpoenas

Democrat responds to Nunes recorded accusations

The House Intelligence Committee issued seven subpoenas Wednesday, ramping up its investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election and into whether names of President Trump's associates were improperly revealed in classified intelligence reports. Cohen also owned and operated a handful of taxi medallions, managing a fleet of cabs in NY.

Trump tweeted, referring to the Federal Bureau of Investigation director he abruptly fired.

The House Intelligence Committee has also delivered a letter to former White House press aide Boris Epshteyn, requesting that he voluntarily submit information for the investigation.

The aide said any such subpoenas would have been issued by Representative Devin Nunes of California, the committee's chairman, who has recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation.

Republicans on the committee have been pushing for a thorough investigation of how the names of Trump campaign officials became exposed in classified intelligence reports based off intelligence community intercepts.

Flynn was forced to resign in February from his position as Trump's first national security adviser after it was revealed that he misled Vice President Mike Pence about a conversation he had with the Russian ambassador to the United States in late December.

Flynn's cooperation came as President Donald Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen, rejected a request for documents as part of a House committee's separate probe into Russia's election meddling and contacts with the Trump campaign.

In addition to approving subpoenas for Flynn and Cohen, the committee also approved them for their companies, Flynn Intel Group LLC and Michael D. Cohen & Associates PC.

The subpoenas related to the committee's unmasking investigation were issued by Nunes alone. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday about the House committee's latest action. Last week, the committee issued two new subpoenas to Flynn's businesses and is seeking a response by Tuesday.

"You don't issue a subpoena unless you haver a good-faith bases to believe the documents you're asking for exist", he told Fox News host Martha MacCallum.

Flynn's cooperation was the first signal that he and the Senate panel have found common ground.

Trump has denied any collusion between Russian Federation and his campaign and has repeatedly questioned the U.S. intelligence finding that Putin led an operation that included computer hacking, fake news and propaganda meant to swing the election in his favour over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

Cohen is one of several Trump associates under scrutiny in a Federal Bureau of Investigation examination of contacts between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation, according to the New York Times.

A similar back-and-forth occurred before the testimony last month of former acting Attorney General Sally Yates, though the White House said it did not try to block her appearance.
