Donald Trump says James Comey lying, willing to testify under oath

Trump offers to speak under oath after Comey testimony

President Trump has broken the silence he maintained during former FBI Director James Comey's testimony Thursday, saying on Twitter that he was vindicated in the hearing that explored Russian meddling in the us election, its ties to Trump's security adviser, and Trump's dealings with Comey.

During more than two hours of testimony, Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee he believed Trump had directed him to drop an FBI probe into the Republican president's former national security adviser Michael Flynn as part of the broader Russian Federation investigation.

The House Intelligence Committee has submitted two letters to the administration related to the Comey revelations surrounding his meetings with Trump: one to the Department of Justice's special counsel Robert Mueller for Comey's personal memos, and a second to White House counsel Don McGahn, requesting information on any possible "recordings or memoranda of Comey's conversations with President Trump".

"I hope you can let this go", Comey reported the president as saying in a February 14 meeting.Trump's personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, disputed both statements after Thursday's hearing, essentially pitting the two accounts against each other.Asked on Friday which version she would believe, Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins said it was possible Comey misremembered or misinterpreted some of their exchanges.

Oh. So, according to the president - who seemed to be glancing down at some notes while speaking - we should believe the parts of Comey's testimony that Trump liked, but we should believe the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director perjured himself on the parts that Trump didn't like.

"Well, I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the very near future", he told local media.

Comey testified that after he was sacked, he orchestrated a selective leak in order to prompt a lengthy special counsel investigation of the president, knowing full well that the FBI had found no reason to place the president under investigation. "I'm not going to say, 'I want you to pledge allegiance'".

But Trump refrained from confirming that he had records of conversations with Comey as he previously implied.

Mr Trump on Sunday accused Mr Comey of "cowardly" leaks and predicted many more from him.

Though Trump has lambasted Comey as a "leaker", he also claimed "total and complete vindication" following the ex-FBI chief's testimony, focusing on Comey's confirmation that Trump was not personally being probed.

However, he said that Trump did not directly order him stop investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. Mr Trump "should voluntarily turn them over", Ms Collins said. "He's a leaker", Trump said of Comey.

But he made clear his stance that Comey said nothing to the Intelligence Committee that proved Trump or his campaign associates were in cahoots with Moscow during the election or before he was sworn in, nor that Trump obstructed justice in his private talks with Comey. Trump scheduled a joint news conference with visiting Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.
