Donald Trump's Middle East Comment in Israel

Dozens of supporters crowded at Shuhada Square in the center of the city and torched US flags as well

Before the US president touched down in Israel, however, his coming visit was marred when Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters the USA delegation was heading to "Tel Aviv, home of Judaism".

Trump received a warm welcome in Tel Aviv after becoming the first U.S. president to include Israel on his maiden overseas trip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu listens as President Donald Trump speaks at the Israel Museum, Tuesday, May 23, 2017, in Jerusalem.

Noah Pollak, a pro-Israel foreign policy consultant, told Gray that "if Pence, Bannon, and Friedman were running Israel policy the embassy would already be in Jerusalem".

Trump has said that achieving a peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians is possible.

Earlier this month, Israel rejected as "absurd" a UNESCO resolution it said denies Jews' historical connection to Jerusalem by presenting Israel as an occupying power there. Trump made no comment about the Wall during the trip and avoided other controversial issues during his time in Israel.

Trump initially expressed openness to alternatives to a two-state solution in February, during a meeting with Netanyahu at the White House.

"All the different messages made by President Trump are not only something heartwarming to Israelis, but it's a clear message to the Palestinians: Be serious about making peace and don't delude yourselves that the U.S.is not Israel's ally and will look the other way".

Mat Staver, founder and chairman of the Liberty Counsel, told JNS.org he believes Trump is receiving pressure to nix the embassy move from "some Muslim nations, some establishment people in the State Department, and even no doubt from some people in his own party and in Israel".

"I also firmly believe that if Israel and the Palestinians can make peace, it can begin a process of peace all throughout the Middle East and that will be an wonderful accomplishment".

Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967.

The president rekindled the eternal flame, and he and first lady Melania Trump laid a wreath of red and white flowers on a stone slab.

Analysts and commentators were left Wednesday wondering what, if anything, Trump might do to resolve the decades-old conflict.

On the relationship between the Arab states and Israel, Trump offered no recipe as to how they can reach a comprehensive peace agreement. He vowed to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons and touted the possibility of a regional framework for peace, conditioned on the Arab world recognizing Israel's "vital role".

"There is no regional peace process or anything like it", he said, adding "No one is talking about it with us, or with anyone".
