On cross-examination, Cosby's chief accuser denies romance before alleged assault

Canadian Andrea Constand testifies on Day 2 of Bill Cosby sexual assault trial

Constand also testified that she returned to Cosby's home after the alleged assault "with the hopes of asking him what the pills were that he gave her". She told jurors her daughter had nightmares in the months after the alleged assault but that she wouldn't divulge what happened for about a year.

Her claim is the only one to reach court because the time limits on all the others have run out.

The defence has argued the two had a romantic relationship, that Ms Constand was not incapacitated, and that the sexual encounter was consensual. She says that's when Cosby sexually assaulted her. "In my head, I was trying to get my hands to move and my legs to move, and those messages were frozen. I wasn't able to fight him away".

WHAT'S NEXT: Defense lawyers will continue their cross-examination of Constand on Wednesday.

A clip of the joke went viral days later, paving the way for a media firestorm in which countless alleged victims of "The Cosby Show" patriarch accused him of sexual assault.

Andrea Constand testified yesterday that Cosby gave her pills and wine before sexually assaulting her, alleging: "I said, 'What are they, are they natural, are they herbal?'" and she said he told her, "These will help you relax".

"I began slurring my words".

In August of that year, Constand testified, she asked Cosby's representatives for tickets for her and her family to see his show in Toronto.

About half an hour later, Constand said, she had trouble talking and difficulty moving and was suffering double vision. Constand claims that she replied, "I did not, I just want to know what you gave me", to which Cosby did not give her a clear answer.

But Constand said she was returning calls Cosby made to her university-issued cellphone about the basketball team.

She says Cosby became more flirtatious and suggestive over time, once grabbing her thigh and later attempting to unbutton her trousers.

"He was sorry that you were upset", defense lawyer Angela Agrusa said, providing an alternate explanation for Cosby's apology.

Ms Constand's case is the only one in which Cosby has been charged.

The outcome of his trial in the Philadelphia suburb of Norristown, Pennsylvania, largely hinges on whether jurors believe Constand's testimony, which came on the trial's second day.

In January 2004, Constand said, Cosby invited her to his house again to discuss her career options.

Constand met Cosby at Temple University in Philly where he was one of its most famous alumni and she was director of basketball operations.

Constand testified Wednesday that wasn't the case.

"He was somebody I trusted, a mentor and somewhat of an older figure to me", she explained to the seven-man, five-woman jury.

Referring to the actor as "Mr. Cosby" throughout her testimony, Constand admitted she had given him gifts in the past to thank him for invitations to dinner and other events.

Constand claimed Cosby assisted her to the couch and laid her down, and that she doesn't recall passing out. Atchison's client roster includes Cosby and his wife, Camille.

The massage therapist shared chilling details about her alleged physical encounter with the legendary comedian at his mansion in January 2004.

"She showed us a few photographs of herself and Mr. Cosby to show that she did know him", Mason told the jury.

In his opening statement, Cosby's defense attorney, Brian McMonagle, said, "Sexual assault is a bad crime".
