Patriots sign Julian Edelman to an extension

Julian Edelamn close to extension let's guess his deal

Julian Edelman and the New England Patriots have agreed to a two-year extension that will keep the wide receiver with the reigning Super Bowl champions through the 2019 season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Thursday afternoon. It only took a few hours until an agreement was reached. As a result of the newly inked pact, Edelman will remain in New England until at least the 2019 season. He accumulated a 98-1,106-3 stat line while averaging 11.3 YPC and 69.1 YPG.

Edelman, 31, is entering his ninth season with the team. The Patriots also signed veteran receiver Andrew Hawkins in free agency, and added another playmaking tight end, Dwayne Allen, through a trade.

Julian Edelman was scheduled to be a free agent after this season, but it appears that won't be the case. In his eight-year National Football League career to date, Edelman has 425 receptions for 4,540 yards and 24 touchdowns.

The thirty-one-year-old Edelman, who has spent his entire eight-year career in Foxborough, is in the final year of a four-year $17 million deal he signed in March of 2014.

He also came up with one of the most memorable highlights of the team's comeback win over the Falcons in Super Bowl LI.

Edelman has 89 career postseason catches, behind only Reggie Wayne and Jerry Rice for the most all-time, and now has an 11-game streak overall of at least 70 yards receiving.

It is because of these numbers that many pegged Edelman as a candidate to receive a new deal this offseason.
