South Korea President Moon Jae-in said Saturday he hopes to see North Korean athletes at next year's Winter Olympics in South Korea to ease tensions over the North's nuclear program.

It has also been suggested the two nations form an inter-Korean women's ice hockey team to compete in the Games.

Such a collaboration could help the neighbors resume dialogue after a period of official silence.

In South Korea, however, NBC would not be inviting guests to the Games and would instead be hosting them in the USA ski town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Zenkel said.

The Paralympic Games take place March 9 to March 18.

It is not the first time proposals for North Korea to host competitions at the Games have been mooted, with the suggestion having been raised back in 2015.

A North Korean taekwondo team will join South Korean athletes this weekend in a demonstration at the opening ceremony of the sport's world championships in Muju, South Korea.

While many in South Korea are keen to see reduced tensions with their northern neighbor, achieving the balancing act required to co-host an worldwide sporting event might be too much for two countries still technically at war.

In a commentary Friday, North Korean state-controlled newspaper Rodong Sinmun said that if South Korea pursues peace with the North, it should "stop all hostilities", including sanctions.

South Korea considered sharing some events at the Seoul 1988 Olympics with the North.

Do cited North Korea's "top-class" Masikryong ski resort as a potential venue and said he would discuss co-hosting with Jang Woong, North Korea's delegate to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), according to South Korean media.

Taeyang was appointed to the position by the PyeongChang Organizing Committee president Lee Hee-Beom, who described the K-pop star as a "great musician" who will "greatly contribute to promoting the PyeongChang Olympics to the world".

Per the Guardian, no North Korean athletes have qualified for the 2018 Games yet.
