Schiff says firing Mueller would echo Watergate

Trump may ‘terminate’ Russia probe’s Mueller says president’s pal

"I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel", Christopher Ruddy said during an appearance on PBS' "NewsHour".

"Subject to the possibility of being fired for 'good cause, ' Mueller should be allowed to do his work unhindered and unimpeded", Starr writes.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein noted during a Senate hearing Tuesday that he, and not Attorney General Jeff SessionsJeff SessionsWhite House: Trump "has no intention" to fire Mueller Sessions decries "detestable lie" Despite drama and innuendo, Sessions hearing goes nowhere MORE, was the one with authority to hire and fire Mueller.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein returns to Capitol Hill on Tuesday for public hearings in front of the budget-writing appropriations committees for the House and Senate.

Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy, who The Associated Press reports is a close friend of Trump, said that the president is considering "terminating" the special counsel, who is charged with investigating the president's 2016 campaign ties to the Russian government. Trump called because "I have been very clear" about Mueller and the lawyers he's hired amounting to a "rigged game", Gingrich said. As he has already said earlier in the day, Rosenstein is not involved in the investigation and does not know any details regarding what's going on.

House Speaker Paul Ryan says the White House and President Donald Trump should let the special counsel's investigation continue, and await vindication. The regulations that govern the special counsel were issued by the Department of Justice and could be rescinded by DOJ. Sessions is set to discuss the scope of his recusal from the Russian investigation, any meetings he had with Russian officials as a surrogate of the Trump campaign and the circumstances around the firing of FBI Director James Comey.

The comments come amid increasing frustration at the White House and among Trump supporters that the investigation will overshadow the president's agenda for months to come - a prospect that has Democrats salivating.

The White House has denied that President Trump is considering firing Mueller. "I am confident he will have sufficient independence".

The reports Mueller may be replaced drew immediate outrage from Democrats. Mr Ruddy said Mr Mueller has some "conflicts" because his former law firm, Wilmer Hale, also representing Ms Ivanka Trump, the President's daughter, and her husband, Mr Jared Kushner.

Firing Mr Mueller would be politically explosive and would raise new questions about Mr Trump, whose dismissal of Mr James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation chief led to charges of obstruction of justice - and to Mr Mueller's appointment. "I have confidence in Bob Mueller". In what became known as the Saturday Night Massacre, President Richard Nixon ordered then-Attorney General Elliot Richardson to fire Cox.
