No Chill: High Heat Here To Stay In NorCal A While

The official excessive heat warning is in effect from noon Sunday to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The temperatures this afternoon in the Central Valley are going to near the century mark and are expected to keep on rising, according to the National Weather Service.

For example, NWS San Antonio said you might feel "faint or dizzy" of you are experiencing heat exhaustion, vs. having a throbbing headache during a heat stroke.

Bay City News reports that the National Weather Service predicts that inland Bay Area cities face "temperatures in the triple digits, up to 20 degrees higher than normal". The temperature Friday at the Nut Tree Airport in Vacaville is expected reach 100, followed Saturday by a high of 102, 105 Sunday and 102 Monday.

These high temperatures are caused by an aptly named weather phenomenon: "heat domes". In the Coachella Valley, highs are predicted to be 109 to 114 degrees today, 112 to 117 degrees Sunday, 114 to 119 degrees Monday, 117 to 122 degrees Tuesday and 115 to 120 degrees Wednesday.

In addition, pets may need extra care in coming days, the Weather Service said.

"With extremely steep slopes (and) a rugged and eroding trail, the (Three Sisters Falls) hike is listed as strenuous to extreme, and is suggested for those in good physical condition", sheriff's department spokesman Ryan Keim said.

As part of the heat advisory, forecasters warned there will be a high risk of heat stroke or other heat-related illness for those without air-conditioning or those outdoors for any extended period.

He added it was critically important to never leave children, elderly people, or pets unattended in homes without air conditioning and particularly in vehicles, even if the windows are "cracked" or open, as temperatures inside can quickly rise to life-threatening levels.
