Trump disputes Russian interference in 2016 election

So far there's no evidence that Russian cyberattacks altered US vote totals in any way.

That is correct, the DHS acting deputy undersecretary responded.

The letter also suggests creating software barriers between the internet and election data, such as voter registration and election management systems.

Connie Lawson, the current secretary of state for in, says a recently leaked report purportedly from the National Security Agency suggests election-related hacking penetrated further into USA voting systems than was previously known. It could also require election officials to receive training on how to recognize hacking tactics like phishing.

But though the government disclosed that 21 states were potentially impacted by the targeting, lawmakers were left frustrated that the public still doesn't have a full picture of what exactly the Russians did during the election and that it's not fully clear what the USA will do to protect itself going forward.

His tweets come a day after former Homeland Security Advisor Jeh Johnson testified before the House Intelligence Committee that he hadn't seen any evidence that Trump or his campaign "colluded, conspired or coordinated" with the Russians - a charge often levied against Trump by detractors, who've yet to produce evidence backing the claim.

The House Intelligence Committee is investigating whether any of the stolen information made its way to the Trump campaign. Johnson did not say that, and no investigation has been completed, so there's no reason he would have.

Mueller took over the Russian Federation probe in May after Trump fired Comey.

Johnson revealed that the DNC had declined an offer by the Department of Homeland Security to help them after their email servers had been hacked. "The response I got was Federal Bureau of Investigation had spoken to them, they don't want our help, they have CrowdStrike", Johnson testified, referring to the cybersecurity firm that investigated the Russian hacks on behalf of the DNC.

Specifically, Johnson was questioned about whether the DHS helped the DNC after learning about possible Russian hacking.

It's been said many times, but witnesses reiterated they have no doubt that Russian Federation itself was behind efforts to intervene in the USA election and were also very confident that no votes were changed in the process. He said he first raised the issue with states in a conference call in mid-August, after seeing "troubling reports" of scanning and probing activities around various state voter registration databases.

"As of right now, we have evidence that election-related systems in 21 states were targeted", Manfra told the Senate Intelligence Committee in a separate hearing on Wednesday.

"The FBI and the DNC had been in contact with each other months before about the intrusion, and the DNC did not feel it needed DHS's assistance at that time", Johnson added in his prepared remarks. He says it's not acceptable for the government to keep the full scope of the attacks secret.

"I don't believe they interfered", he told Time magazine late a year ago.

Many hackers, including state-sponsored ones, use automated programs to target hundreds or even thousands of computers to check for vulnerabilities.

Heinrich also asked Priestap to explain the concept of an "unwitting agent", and then asked if Trump became such an unwitting agent of the Russians by talking about rigged elections.

During the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, Steve Sandvoss - executive director of Illinois State Board of Elections - said security training funded by a federal entity would be beneficial in the future.
