Cleveland Cavaliers In Talks To Sign Derrick Rose To 1-Year Deal

Report: Derrick Rose In Talks To Join Cavs On 1-Year Deal

Point guard Derrick Rose is "in serious talks" with the Cavs about possibly joining the team on a one-year deal. Rose was set to take a second meeting with the Bucks, according to an ESPN report a week ago.

The Cavaliers could be adding another former MVP to their roster.

Rose, the top pick in the 2008 NBA Draft by hometown club Chicago, has met with several teams this month, including Milwaukee and the Los Angeles Clippers. While the current free agency period is well underway, it appears as though the Cavaliers are still attempting to bring in a veteran presence to back up starting point guard Kyrie Irving.

Rose, who will turn 29 in October, averaged 18.0 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 64 games for the New York Knicks in 2016-17. However, Rose still a career low from deep at 21 percent.

Rose, the former NBA Most Valuable Player in 2011 for the Chicago Bulls, had struggled in the recent years due to significant injuries and off-court troubles. Plenty of baggage. But he is Derrick Rose, and he presumably would need to be approved by LeBron James. Neither of which would move the dial much, especially not against competition like the Golden State Warriors.

Rose, 28, is one of the top remaining free agents on the open market.
