Ole Miss loses commit following Hugh Freeze resignation

"You know, it's just a sad day for them because people in that state really want to win games and want to be competitive at Ole Miss".

There's new leadership at Ole Miss after Thursday's surprising resignation from former coach Hugh Freeze.

Those rumors gained even more traction at the 2016 NFL Draft when a hacker on Tunsil's instagram account posted screenshots of texts from Tunsil asking for money for expenses from a representative of the school.

And Freeze has nobody to blame but himself.

Bjork added that he and Vitter spoke with Freeze on Wednesday night before meeting with him again Thursday, at which point Freeze resigned.

Luke, who was reportedly a head coaching candidate at Western Kentucky and Troy in recent years, is in charge of a football program for the first time in his career. Vice chancellor for athletics Ross Bjork was ready to write off that one call as a "misdial" before he expanded his own investigation.

"In our analysis, we discovered a pattern of conduct that is not consistent with our expectations as the leader of our football program", Bjork said. "As of (Wednesday), there appeared to be a concerning pattern".

Vitter and Bjork both said Freeze's resignation is strictly because of his personal conduct and not because of the ongoing NCAA investigation. He also said that there will be no settlement or buyout. He was making more than $5 million a year, and he was under contract through 2019.

Result: The Bears opened the season ranked No. 23 and started 6-0, and then lost six straight.

The Rebels have yet to lose a recruit from their class of 2018 group, and their lone 4-star class of 2018 recruit, wide receiver Demarcus Gregory (Duncan, S.C.), told ESPN he's not holding any recruitment meetings at the moment. He did a real good job and he loved Ole Miss.

Well, Houston Nutt, maybe, although based on his time at Ole Miss, it's pretty clear he's not really much of a victor either.

Sports has done a lot or reporting on the NCAA investigation surrounding Ole Miss football, and he passed along an indication of "explosive new information" to come regarding Freeze's status.

Mississippi's rise in football - Freeze was 39-25 over five seasons with a Sugar Bowl victory - coincides with an emphasis on recruiting Greater Houston and Texas.

Co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Matt Luke has been named interim coach and will lead the team this season.

"He admitted that conduct to us", Bjork said. He undoubtedly has his work cut out for him, given the circumstances. They went after Freeze for failure to monitor his program, an allegation the school passionately denied in its response.
