Qatari FM arrives in Kuwait amid rising pressure from Arab neighbors

Saudi Arabia Reports First GDP Contraction Since 2009

The Saudi-led coalition had earlier threatened to impose more sanctions on Qatar if Doha did not meet the demands.

Kuwait reportedly requested that the four countries grant the Gulf state a two-day extension but did not mention anything related to where Qatar stands regarding the demands.

Qatar's leaders have agreed to let Kuwait handle negotiations between Doha and its Gulf neighbours after they severed all diplomatic ties with the tiny kingdom last month.

A handout photo made available by the Kuwaiti News Agency shows Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, Qatar's Foreign Minister (2-L), handing over a letter from Qatar's emir to the emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, in Kuwait, July 3, 2017.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman Al-Saud will not attend the G20 summit due to the Gulf crisis, Saudi diplomatic sources said on Monday.

Hurayji, in an interview with the Arabic version of Turkey's Daily Sabah, said that Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Egypt chose to severe ties with Qatar after Doha's reluctance to meet commitment it made over several years.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have raised the possibility of further sanctions against Qatar if it does not comply with the 13 demands presented to Doha through Kuwait, which is acting as a mediator.

United Kingdom foreign secretary Boris Johnson welcomed Qatar's response and that the four Arab countries had agreed to Kuwait's request for more time.

"Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt made a sovereign decision to boycott Qatar in order to maintain security in the region and pressure Doha to halt its support of terrorism", Moallemi said in a statement published by the Saudi Foreign Ministry on Sunday. "Qatar is prepared to face whatever consequences", he told reporters. Qatar has strongly denied the allegations. He said, "This list of demands will be rejected, it will not be accepted".

"He reiterated the importance of stopping terrorist financing and discrediting extremist ideology", according to the White House.

"The state of Qatar instead of rejecting it as a principle, we are willing to engage in (dialogue), providing the proper conditions for further dialogue".
