Remains found in Dartmouth belong to fugitive wanted for 1980 murder

Police Chief Gregory Adams and his family

Webb, who's on the FBI's Most Wanted list, is alleged to have killed Saxonburg Police Chief Gregory Adams in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, on December 4, 1980, after what police believe was a routine traffic stop. Prosecutors in both MA and Pennsylvania confirmed to The Associated Press on Friday that authorities have agreed not to prosecute Lillian Webb in the investigation.

The FBI is confirming the human remains dug up in a Dartmouth yard are from long-time fugitive Donald Eugene Webb.

"They're elated that the long blue line has held true for 37 years and that the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the state police in MA, the state police in Pennsylvania, local police officials, prosecutors in MA and Pennsylvania have all stuck together", King said in a phone interview from Pennsylvania. A cane was reportedly found in that room, and it is believed Adams was able to shoot Webb in the leg.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in MA positively identified the remains of Donald Eugene Webb in MA.

The filing named Webb's wife, Lillian, and her son, Stanley.

The FBI has offered $100,000 for information leading to Webb's capture.

Investigators believe he died about 17 years ago, but declined to say how he died.

King said that while Adams' widow and her sons are sad to have to relive painful memories, they are relieved the mystery has come to a close.

"Although it's unfortunate Mr. Webb will never be brought to justice to pay for his crimes, we're hopeful the (Adams) family can find some closure in knowing that this alleged murderer has been located", Harold Shaw, the FBI's special agent in charge in Boston, said in a statement.

Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office in MA said Webb's cause of death has not yet been determined, but it 'does not appear his death was the result of a violent act'.

The Maplecrest Drive home is the home of Lillian Webb, the former wife of known mob associate Donald Eugene Webb, who police have been looking for, for 37 years.

"She never gave a thought to me and my family".

State police detectives assigned to Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey's office obtained a search warrant for Lillian Webb's property as part of a separate investigation into an illegal gambling operation that led to the discovery of Webb's body. The cause listed in the paperwork is "desertion".
