Shark attack sends swimmer to the hospital in Miami area

Swimmer injured after shark attack in Miami

"It started getting closer to the people at the sandbar and they tried to get out", Donovan Cecil told ABC-affiliate WPLG.

A swimmer who was bitten by a shark at Haulover Beach was rushed to the hospital Sunday afternoon, officials say. "One guy, it went straight towards him and bit his leg, pulled him, gave him a little tug".

The men were intending to remove the hook from the shark to free it, near Johnnie Mercer's pier in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Felipe Lay of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told Local10.com.

Right before the attack, lifeguards at Haulover Beach in Miami immediately began blowing their whistles after spotting the shark in the water, according to Local 10.

The incident marks the first shark attack on the beach, and it is believed to be a first for the Miami-Dade county.

Sparling reminded beachgoers to follow safety precautions while swimming, including being aware of their surroundings, swimming near manned lifeguard towers and listening to warnings from lifeguards, CNN reported.

The man then tries again to grab the the small tiger shark, but the shark had other plans and viciously bites the man on his hand.
