Cardinals find a new mascot in #RallyCat, but now it's missing

Rallycat helps Cardinals with Grand Slam

On Wednesday, the team was in the midst of a heated game against cross-state rivals the Kansas City Royals - trailing on their home turf 5-4 in the sixth inning.

Hackmann told SportsCenter on Thursday morning that he took the cat up the main concourse and put it down outside the stadium gate near the Stan Musial statue as his hand was "covered in blood" from bites and scratches.

On the very next pitch, Molina launched a grand slam into the left-field seats to give the Cardinals an 8-5 lead.

"I'm not a cat person", Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said after the game.

While dealing with the cat situation he missed Yadier Molina's game winning grand slam but he said he could hear the screams from outside the stadium.

A fan walking on the street claims Rally Cat is hers and makes off with it. The MLB site has video of the cat (immediately dubbed "Rally Cat" in the game's broadcast) scampering around and either biting or scratching the St. Louis field crew member who finally corralled it. Others are posting YouTube clips.

"I thought it must have been something with the scoreboard", Moylan said. "I turned around and there's a kitten running around, which is the first time that's happened to me".

Merrifield made it 3-0 when he scored on Molina's throwing error in the second. Maurer (1-5) took the loss. After a series of events, the Cardinals say it is missing. Whit Merrifield had four hits and Melky Cabrera homered and drove in three runs. Kansas City SS Alcides Escobar started his 284th straight game, tying Baltimore's Miguel Tejada (2004-05) for the longest streak in the majors at the position since the Orioles' Cal Ripken Jr. started 2,216 consecutive games from 1982 to 1996.

There were reports Wednesday night that the Humane Society of Missouri was taking charge of the cat.
