Cowboys-Texans preseason game canceled

Texans dedicate their season to city of Houston

The game was initially scheduled for NRG Stadium in Houston but was moved to Arlington due to unprecedented flooding in the Houston area caused by what was Hurricane Harvey.

While the matchup was going to be used as a fundraiser for victims of Hurricane Harvey, canceling now allows Texans players, coaches and staff to return home to their families in the flood-ravaged city.

The decision to cancel the game altogether was announced when the Texans said local authorities had found a safe route for the team to drive the 250 miles home. Simply put, there's far more important things going on for Houston than a meaningless preseason game.

"I know they're probably anxious to get home and see their families, just assess the situation", Witten said.

The Cowboys' website reported Tuesday night that 40,000 tickets had been sold, at $25 each, for the game. The Cowboys said ticket buyers can choose to either get a refund or have the money donated to Hurricane Harvey relief.

After a week that saw the team fly from Houston to New Orleans, then on to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the Texans bussed back to Houston on Wednesday afternoon.

Many in the National Football League have already been active in raising money to help those affected by the hurricane this week, including the Texans themselves. It's also worth noting that Texans' star J.J. At last report, the effort had raised more than $5.1 million. "Everybody here is obviously most concerned about their families, their friends, the city of Houston back home". The Jets will donate $1 million to the American Red Cross and Tennessee Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk donated $1 million to Watt's fundraising campaign. It was even going to broadcast on NFL Network and the Texans were in Dallas practicing.

The team, inspired by Houston, hope they can create a diversion for the city as it rebuilds in the months to come.
