Released in January, the video is also the first to cross the three-billion views mark and has accrued the most thumbs-up.

As of today, his record has been beaten by another song - "Despacito", by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber. Besides, the original track's YouTube video is the website's most-watched video of all time.

The Bieber version has logged 12 weeks at number one on the U.S. singles chart, the first Spanish-language song to reach the top spot since "Macarena" in 1996. "Everything that has happened in the last six months has exceeded all my expectations, and I'm just grateful that people have enjoyed it so much and continue to sing it, dance it and share it".

Daddy Yankee reacted to the news with an Instagram video thanking YouTube. "I recognise the influence that the platform has", he said.
