Today CNBC has confirmed that Samsung's President of mobile has told them that a smart speaker is in fact on the way "soon".

Samsung expanded its digital personal assistant Bixby to over 200 countries and territories globally on Tuesday, as it looks to step up its challenge to rival products like Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri.

DJ Koh, president of Samsung's mobile division, said in an interview that the company behind the Samsung Galaxy S8 and recently announced Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is now working on its own smart speaker, according to CNBC.

Originally set to roll out in the US and South Korea in the spring with the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus flagship phones, Bixby's arrival was delayed until July.

Back in July, it was reported that Samsung was manufacturing a Bixby-enabled smart speaker, following hot on the heels of Apple announcing a smart speaker and Google and Amazon contributing to the market, too.

Samsung plans to continue expanding Bixby's voice capabilities to additional countries, languages, devices, features and third-party applications. As I mentioned, I wanted to provide a fruitful user experience at home with Samsung devices, and I want to be moving quite heavily on it.

Bixby only "speaks" two languages - English and Korean - compared to the 21 for Siri and the 5 for Google Assistant. "Get started by saying, "Hi, Bixby", tweeted Samsung SmartLife. That being said, Bixby is coming to connected Samsung wearables and other Samsung devices.
