Six Family Members Found Dead In Missing Van - Houston Police

The van in which an elderly couple and their four grandchildren were riding when the vehicle was swept away Sunday by Tropical Storm Harvey's floodwaters has been found Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of Harris County Texas said Wednesday

The van in which an elderly couple and their four grandchildren were riding when the vehicle was swept away Sunday by Tropical Storm Harvey's floodwaters has been found, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of Harris County, Texas, said Wednesday.

Residents cross high water on North Braeswood Blvd to escape the flooding from Hurricane Harvey Aug. 28, 2017 in Houston.

Authorities have not confirmed the incident, but the relatives said the van was submerged in the rushing waters and the six - four children and their great-grandparents - are feared dead.

Ric Saldivar said the Harris County Sheriff's Office told him his brother was stuck in the water for 45 minutes.

Although the driver - the children's great-uncle - was able to escape the auto before it went under water, the rest of the family was unable to make it out, KHOU 11 reported. They still don't know where the van is, whether the current carried it away or if it sank close to where it went in.

He approached a waterlogged bridge over Greens Bayou and wanted to turn around.

"It's so unfair", said Esmeralda Saldiva, the children's aunt through marriage.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, as the waters in Houston continued to rise, 16-year-old Devy Saldivar wrote on Facebook, "no sleep & anxiety, please let this pass sooner".

KHOU-TV identified the six family members as 84-year-old Manuel Saldivar, 81-year-old Belia Saldivar, 6-year-old Daisy Saldivar, 8-year-old Xavier Saldivar, 14-year-old Dominic Saldivar and 16-year-old Devy Saldivar.

"He could hear the kids screaming and crying, trying to get out of the van", his brother, Ricardo Saldivar, told NBC News on Tuesday. He told the children inside to try and get out through the back door, but they were unable to. She was my sunflower, my sunshine. "He loved anything Army and playing video games", she said. She was Grandpa's girl. "He was the most awesome, loving boy", the distraught grandmother added.

"He was yelling at the kids to climb out of the back of the van; I'm sure they couldn't reach it", Ric said, recalling what Samuel told him.
