Thousands of Leftists Expected to Torpedo Boston Free Speech Rally

John Medlar an organizer of Saturday’s “free speech rally” on Boston Common

"The alt lite, sometimes referred to as the New Right, is a loosely-connected movement whose adherents generally shun white supremacist thinking, but who are in step with the alt right in their hatred of feminists and immigrants, among others". "I'm confident we'll be safe, just going from the hotel to the bus to here, but all you can do is hope for the best".

John Medlar, a spokesman for the Boston Free Speech Coalition organizing Saturday's event, told the Boston Globe that headliner Augustus Invictus, who was in Charlottesville, was asked not to attend and other speakers had dropped out.

The rally will take place from noon to 2 p.m. "In return, they must respect our city". Policy-wise, this will likely lead to further decreases in federal efforts to investigate and counter alt-right hate groups, like the ones present at the recent violent Charlottesville protests.

There were some skirmishes throughout the day, but the "Boston Free Speech" rally and the counterprotests that attracted thousands did not attract the same level of violence that was seen a week earlier at a rally in Charlottesville, Va.

Cities across the United States are seeking ways to head off the kind of violence seen in Charlottesville, Virginia last weekend when white nationalists and neo-Nazis clashed with counter-protesters over the planned removal of a Civil War-era statue.

"Boston officials said Friday that they will shut down the Saturday event if there are signs of violence".

Meanwhile, a BLM-organized demonstration called "Fight Supremacy" saw similar levels of interest, raising more than $20,000 by Thursday night, while expecting over 10,000 attendees.

In the end, the free speech rally itself appeared to fizzle from lack of attendance, either because supporters made a decision to stay away or were unable to make their way through the massive numbers of protesters.

During a press conference Friday about security for the rally, Walsh said the city has spoken to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which provided guidance on how to handle conflicts with white supremacists. "We can not continue to ignore racism".

Speakers attending the rally include former Infowars reporter Joe Biggs, Republican congressional candidate Shiva Ayyadurai, and Libertarian congressional candidate Samson Racioppi. It was not immediately clear if anyone was arrested. Want to know how to join in the protests?

"I've researched it and got a little nervous", said Sabathia, who has his 13-year-old son, also named CC, with him. "I believe race shouldn't define the pattern of your life or the result of your life".

Evans also criticized the publicity surrounding the event, saying that because of "the frenzy over the last six days", the Boston rally has been portrayed "like a showdown".
