Kuwait Emir to hold talks with Trump

President Trump holds a press conference at the White House on Thursday

Tillerson said the USA had agreed to "expedite" delivery of F-18 Super Hornet aircraft, sold to Kuwait past year as part of a $10 billion arms deal, and both countries agreed to expand sharing of counterterrorism and border security information.

Trump's White House meeting with Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah comes as Trump has sent conflicting signals about where he stands on the dispute.

The Saudi-led bloc has also imposed sanctions against the tiny Persian Gulf country, including restrictions on Qatari aircraft using their airspace. Kuwait has been trying to mediate the dispute. But the dispute has dragged on.

Trump also spoke to Qatar's al-Thani on Thursday.

He has said that the Emir of Kuwait is now helping America in the Gulf and that "things are going well".

President Trump who staged a joint conference with the Kuwait leader shortly after his arrival in the White House also enjoined the leader and the Arab nations to all face alongside the United States their shared enemies. He initially appeared to side with Saudi Arabia.

President Donald Trump on Thursday expressed a willingness to be a mediator between Qatar and other Arab countries accusing it of supporting terrorism.

The Saudis, along with Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and other countries in the region, have broken all commercial and diplomatic ties with Qatar over its alleged financing of terrorism and close ties to regional rival Iran. "Any dialogue on meeting their demands should not be preceded by any prior conditions", they said in a statement that was an unusual, personal rebuke in the clubby world of Gulf Arab states.

The meeting will address bilateral relations and regional and global developments of mutual interest, and cooperation in the fight against terror will figure high on the summit's agenda, the envoy said, stressing that Kuwait is a major partner to the United States in the war on terror.
