NBC insiders confused by Megyn Kelly's new show

Megyn Kelly turns to daytime for shot at'Oprah effect

Kelly is finding out very quickly that pandering to liberals will get her nowhere.

The Kelly who walked onstage at Rockefeller Center's Studio 6A on Monday had a friendlier and softer persona than her Fox News style, which was emphasized by cushy interviews and happy-go-lucky segments that were, unsurprisingly, more typical of a morning program than a nightly cable show.

In addition, other critics thought that it seemed like Kelly had lost her intelligent persistence and integrity that made her so well known and respected initially.

- Elyssa (@ElyssaK) September 25, 2017 "Megyn Kelly Today" so far feels like this silent scream of smiling at fellow guests while wanting to leave a awful dinner party. This prompted Kelly to tell her story of meeting Oprah. "So, I just sort of think - go United States of America, that's my feeling in watching it".

It remains to be seen whether Kelly will attract a big audience in the competitive morning TV landscape - especially as she goes up against ABC's Live with Kelly and Ryan, which hit a three-month high in September by averaging 3 million viewers.

Kelly asked Turner: "Is it true that you became a lawyer -and you became gay - because of Will?"

- Omar L. Gallaga (@omarg) September 25, 2017 We don't need another talk show with this Fox News person. The solution, again and again, was to return to the host - that pretaped story about the nun, for instance, was packaged as proof of Kelly's personal mantra, "Settle for More", which coincidentally enough is the title of her memoir.

"NBC's Megyn Kelly experiment unveils its latest creation, a morning-show Bride of Frankenstein", tweeted the Washington Post.

Megyn Kelly's mom said she used to dance around to "Miss American Pie", which echoes a Don McClean reference she made just yesterday.

Kelly then told the guest that he'd won tickets to a taping of the sitcom, along with a backstage tour, and she awkwardly ended the segment.

But Kelly's is a unique move, one from a more partisan-skewing outlet, enduring an uncommon the level of scrutiny. Before that, of course, she was an anchor on Fox News and a favorite target of Donald Trump - before cozying up to him in a poorly received prime-time special that did little to enhance her reputation as an interviewer or journalist.

"You know I practiced law for nine years, and I am a lover of the First Amendment and I, in a way, think that this whole situation underscores some of the beauty of our country", she said.
