USA Georgia Hurricane Irma

Irma continued its slog north along Florida's western coast having blazed a path of unknown destruction.

Most tornadoes happen in a tropical cyclone's outer rain bands, about 50 to 200 miles from the center, though some have been spawned near the inner core, NOAA said.

In Jacksonville, record-breaking flooding from Irma's storm surge continues to affect the city.

Irma was still working its way up the state late Sunday, battering major airports in Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville with hurricane force winds.

A meteorologist and storm chaser who was shown in a video struggling to stay on his feet while measuring the ferocious winds of Hurricane Irma told TODAY that he knew exactly what he was getting into and took every necessary precaution. The center of the storm is anticipated to move into southwestern Georgia later today and be in eastern Alabama by Tuesday morning.

Florida, on Sunday was hit by Hurricane Irma, which is said to be one of the most devastating storms to ever hit the region. As of 5:53 a.m. the National Weather Service has issued both tropical storm watches and hurricane watches for North Florida and South Georgia.

There will no longer be any destructive wind with Irma, and the rain will become lighter and less continuous as the moisture spreads out.

Stacey and her family evacuated their Cape Coral home inland with 11 other people, including four kids, four dogs and a hamster.

Over two dozen people are reported to have died since the storm crossed the Caribbean towards the US.

Irma is still forecast to move away from North Carolina.

The worst of Irma is likely yet to come for much of Middle Georgia.

North Carolina remains in the storm's potential track.

Cumberland County schools officials have canceled all after school activities Monday due to Irma-related weather.

In Tallahassee, crews were pulled off the road early Monday because of high winds, according to NPR member station WFSU. "They just made sure to have plenty of food at our house, and we have a full-house generator that comes on automatically when the power goes out".
