Elections officials say Russian hackers targeting election systems across the United States a year ago skipped North Carolina with their cyberattacks.

Oklahoma Election Board spokesman Bryan Dean says U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials notified the state Friday that Oklahoma was one of the targeted states.

The agency is calling all 50 states to let them know whether their systems were compromised.

Secretary of State Kim Wyman of Washington state issued a statement on "security protocols" which had alerted her team to "these attempted intrusions by Russian IP addresses throughout the course of the 2016 election".

Haas said the commission is seeking more specific information, including when the scanning activity occurred in 2016.

The disclosures to states come as a special counsel probes whether there was any coordination during the 2016 campaign between Russian Federation and associates of President Donald Trump. "This was a scan and many computer systems are regularly scanned".

Trump won the election and calls the Russian Federation story a hoax. After his win, Trump created a commission headed by Vice President Mike Pence to investigate voter fraud nationwide.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission plans to work together with federal, state and local elections officials on the plan to prevent any security breaches.

Haas says security provided by the state successfully protected Wisconsin's systems. Walker is expected to seek a third term and Democratic U.S. Sen.
