Damon, Clooney speak out against Weinstein

Director George Clooney and cast member Julianne Moore pose at the premiere for ‘Suburbicon’ in Los Angeles California

George Clooney and Matt Damon are shedding more light on what it was like working with ousted Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, who helped launched both actors to stardom, in the late '90s. "When people say, 'Everybody knew, ' like yeah, I knew he was an a-hole. And I knew he was a womanizer, you know I wouldn't want to be married to the guy". But this level of criminal sexual predation is not something that I ever thought was going on.

Meanwhile, Clooney's close friend and Suburbicon star Matt Damon said he was optimistic that these stories can bring change and added that the fact that former Hollywood heavyweight Weinstein lost his career is a step in the right direction.

Since allegations first surfaced in the Times, over 40 women - including actresses Lupita Nyong'o, Lea Seydoux and Sean Young - have accused Weinstein of harassment and assault.

Clooney is one of many actors who have denounced Harvey Weinstein. "I talked with my wife [Amal] about this".

He said, though, that things between Weinstein and Paltrow were worked out as far as he knew.

Per The New York Times, Paltrow was dating Pitt at the time of her alleged harassment by Weinstein, and told him about the incident, prompting Pitt to confront Weinstein at a theater premiere.

Harvey Weinstein, who just left his one-week pyschological treatment, is now under investigation by the LAPD, since more than 40 women have come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct and harrasment against him. I knew he was an asshole-he was proud of that.

Damon also admitted that he knew that Weinstein had attempted to get his Mr. Ripley co-star Gwyneth Paltrow to give him a massage in an LA hotel room back in 1995 but that "that they had come to whatever agreement or understanding they had come to".

Damon added that he never bore witness to any misconduct on Weinstein's part because the disgraced mogul "didn't do it out in the open".

Weinstein, 65, has denied any claims of non-consensual sex, but has previously apologized for other inappropriate behavior from his past, and is now seeking professional help for psychological issues in Arizona.

"He bought Good Will Hunting, he bought it in 1997, I did five movies in quick succession, he signed me up for a three-picture deal. Miramax was the place making great stuff in the 90s".

Earlier in the interview, Damon mentioned that Weinstein's reputation for strong-arming those in the industry was well-known.

"That was his legend; that was his whole M.O.: Could you survive a meeting with Harvey?". "I didn't really trust him, truly, on the grounds that to accept is trust the most exceedingly very bad of a few on-screen characters who were companions of mine".
