Donald Trump tweet suggests that FCC should take NBC off the air

Trump, long obsessed with nuclear weapons, wants 28000 more

President Donald Trump on Wednesday took aim at TV network NBC, suggesting in a tweet that the Federal Communications Commission revoke the broadcasters license.

On Wednesday, NBC News reported that Trump called for a larger nuclear arsenal during a July meeting at the Pentagon, citing three unnamed officials in the room.

"In suggesting that a broadcast network's license be targeted because of its coverage, Mr. Trump once again evoked the Watergate era when President Richard M. Nixon told advisers to make it hard for The Washington Post to renew the FCC license for a Florida television station it owned", The New York Times said in its report on the tweet.

Trump was discussing a report by NBC News, saying it was fake.

Comcast was down almost 1% to 37.31 in late trading on the stock market today.

"Even if Trump is right and the story is completely invented, there is no basis under the First Amendment to ensure NBC loses its broadcast license, which would mean that it would have to stop broadcasting".

It was also reported, soon after the meeting ended, one of the officials heard Tillerson say Trump is a "moron".

NBC News reported that Trump told his top generals that the USA military's nuclear arsenal should be beefed up by a factor of ten, an observation that shocked senior military officers.

The MOST protected form of speech under by US Constitution is political speech.

Officials told NBC News that Trump was presented with a chart that illustrated the decline in the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal, which now includes 4,000 weapons, during the summer Pentagon meeting. Trump wrote. "Bad for country!" NBC, which is owned by Comcast, "holds broadcast licenses for several stations".

The president's suggestion is unlikely to do much to ease his frustrations.

"Under deregulatory measures that Republicans successfully pushed over the past generation, challenging a license on the grounds that coverage is unfair or biased would be extremely hard", the newspaper reported.

Trump said that, in his opinion, the press was making up their anonymous sources. He's just shouting that it isn't true, from the bully pulpit of the White House, and suggesting that NBC should be silenced.

North Korea's foreign minister has said Donald Trump "has lit the wick of a war", according to a Russian state news agency.
