Missing Pak journalist rescued after over two years

'Missing' Lahore journalist Zeenat Shehzadi recovered after two years

The mother of a Pakistani journalist who was abducted in 2015 and freed this week, says her daughter is under extreme mental pressure and unable to tell much about her ordeal. She was recovered on Wednesday night from near the Pakistan-Afghan border, Iqbal said.

According to Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal, who is also the head of Pakistan's missing person's commission, she was kidnapped by terrorists and "enemy agencies", and she was recovered from them.

He added that tribals from Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces played an important role in Shahzadi's rescue.

However, no statement has yet been received regarding the recovery of Zeenat Shahzadi from herself or her family.

Zeenat Shahzadi, the journalist who went missing in Lahore in 2015, has been recovered by security forces, officials said on Friday.

Soon afterwards, Shahzadi was allegedly detained by security agencies and questioned about Hamid. To make her research stronger, she had also got in touch with Fauzia Ansari, the mother of Hamid Ansari, through social media. I did not even have any contact number for her family, as I never thought I would need one. After obtaining a special power of attorney, she had been working relentlessly for his release till she disappeared in August 2015. "My sister is missing and my younger brother (Saddam) who was deeply attached to her hanged himself after losing hope to get reunited with her", Shahzadi's brother Salman Latif had told PTI. She was due to appear before the Commission for Missing Persons the next day. Deciding that he had to see her, Ansari reportedly entered Pakistan illegally via Afghanistan, failing to obtain a visa.

"I have met foreign minister Sushma Swaraj a number of times and she has assured me that all efforts were being made to secure Hamid's release as he has completed the three year jail term", she said.

"It quoted the Asian Human Rights Commission as saying that "[Pakistan's] higher judiciary, including the Supreme Court, has on many occasions found personnel from the Pakistan army and paramilitary to be involved in abductions, enforced detentions and later disappearances".
