Trump's Twitter account briefly 'deactivated'

Trump's Twitter account temporarily disappeared

At first Twitter said that it was just "human error" that led to Trump briefly being dumped from his favorite platform.

A Twitter employee, on his last day at work, took down the account of Donald Trump.

A Twitter employee, on his last day at the job, deactivated the account of Donald Trump on the social network.

For those few minutes, visitors to Trump's account were simply met with the message, "Sorry, that page doesn't exist!"

Trump has insisted on maintaining his direct access to the public via his Twitter habits, and has been criticised for using an unsecured Android phone. We are conducting a full internal review.

Trump, who has almost 42 million Twitter followers, responded to the temporary loss of his account by boasting about his wide reach on the service.

After investigating the incident, Twitter administration figured out exactly what happened.

Twitter took responsibility for the outage.

Early Friday, Trump's Twitter page showed inaccurate information - a mere 5,809 followers, even dwindling down to 4,202 at one point.

Twitter temporarily suspended the account of actress Rose McGowan in October after she tweeted about sexual harassment allegations made against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. "Bought and paid for by Crooked H.", Trump's tweet read. Trump has tweeted threats of war with North Korea, posted an edited video of him "tackling CNN to the ground", and lashed out at rivals, among other controversies.

The president is aware of the issue and the White House is in touch with Twitter, said an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a delicate matter. It said that it considers a "number of factors" and that one of them is "newsworthiness" - suggesting the tweet will stay up because it is in the "public interest". Many have wondered why some of his tweets aren't being deleted by the social media platform, despite their apparent violation of its rules.
