Bon Jovi, Nina Simone Among Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2018 Inductees

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announces Bon Jovi, The Cars, more as 2018 inductees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2018 has been announced.

Singer and pioneer of mid-20th-century music Sister Rosetta Tharpe will also be given the Early Influence Award. The other new inductees are Bon Jovi, The Cars, Dire Straits and Nina Simone.

Shut out altogether are first-time nominees Radiohead, Kate Bush, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, Rage Against the Machine and Judas Priest (whose lead singer, Rob Halford, has a condo overlooking Balboa Park) in San Diego.

I reported a year ago when Bon Jovi was snubbed by the HOF that Wenner and Bruce Springsteen's manager, Jon Landau, controlled the hall.

"Thanks for inducting us into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame".

When the acclaimed art-rock band received its first nomination into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on October 5, Radiohead responded the logical way: by scheduling a show in Buenos Aires the same night as the induction ceremony. An edited version will be broadcast on HBO and SiriusXM radio in spring 2018.

Bon Jovi's longtime sideman and guitarist, Richie Sambora, left the band in 2013 but will be inducted alongside his former bandmates. And The Cars, whose original members briefly reunited in 2010 after a long hiatus, could also regroup, minus bassist Benjamin Orr, who died in 2000.

Bon Jovi has been eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 2008 and has only been nominated once before, in 2011.

Musical artists become eligible for induction when 25 years have elapsed since their first release. The top five artists from the fan vote comprised the Fans' Ballot that was tallied alongside the other ballots to determine the 2018 Inductees.
