Dangerously cold wind chills

Bitter cold and below zero wind chills to end 2017

This will be record cold for New Years Eve. Clouds will be cleared out by lunchtime and winds will become light at 5-15 miles per hour into the evening.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny. Wind: N 10-15; gusty.

Meteorologist Sarah Fletcher says a cold front moved through Friday night and cold arctic air will take over into the New Year.

Today: Partly cloudy. Wind chills from 0 to -10.

The weather service expects wind chills to fall into the 15 to 20 below zero range at times.

A Wind Chill Warning is in place for Saturday night - Monday morning for wind chill values of -30 to -50 degrees. Lake effect snow showers and very cold wind chills are expected for both counties.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, low around 8 below. Highs through the New Year for most will not top 0° (Fahrenheit). At least we will be back in the single digits on Tuesday. However, highs will slowly climb their way back up into the mid 20s (Tuesday) then upper 20s (Wednesday), with a lighter and less cold southwest breeze by the middle of the week allowing for a break from the bitter cold wind chills as well.

Thursday's forecast bears watching, as what will likely be a developing ocean storm to our east is expected to become rather strong but also expected to stay far enough offshore to have limited impacts on our weather.

According to the weather service's website, daytime highs Saturday will be around minus 15 degrees, with the overnight low Saturday night expected to be around minus 27 degrees.
