Found Dead In Basement Apartment In Upstate New York

Troy N.Y. where the bodies of four people were found in a basement apartment on Tuesday Dec. 26 2017

"After being in this business for almost 42 years, I can say I have not seen savagery like this", the Troy Record reported the local police chief as saying.

"You know, the emotions of a police officer are something you repress because there's a job to be done", he added. "I don't have the word".

Four people found dead in a basement apartment in the city of Troy, N.Y., are suspected to have been murdered, according to multiple media reports.

Investigators have not released the victims' identifies or say how they were killed, but neighbors tell Albany Times Union that a woman lived in the basement apartment with her children, ages 8 and 11, and her partner.

The apartment building's property manager discovered the bodies Tuesday afternoon, and police responded to the building on Second Avenue in Troy, a city eight miles northeast of Albany, about 12:50 p.m. Autopsies were being conducted Wednesday. Authorities are not releasing their identities pending notification of relatives.

Tedesco declared during a news conference that the killings were "not a random act", but wouldn't say why he believed that was the case.

The police chief said the "suspicious" deaths are being treated as homicides, but he did not provide further details on how or why the four victims were killed. While they do not yet have a person of interest in the slayings, Todesco said he does not believe there is an imminent danger to the public. It is unclear how long the bodies were in the home before they were discovered.

Investigators are still working at the scene Wednesday morning.
