The full, real, actual Civilization VI just came out on iPad

Civilization VI for iPad is here but you won’t buy

For iPad, Civilization VI requires iOS 11.0 or later and will run on an iPad Air or newer, iPad mini 2 or newer, or any iPad Pro model.

The game is free to try out for the first 60 turns. For a limited time, it is available for $30 until January 4th however. And of course, the kinds of prices developers would need to charge in order to make ports of recent games feasible isn't really what most mobile game players are willing to spend.

While previous Aspyr games for iOS have been playable on iPhone or iPad, Civilization VI will only be available for the iPad.

The release, which comes as a surprise to many, features the full game ported over to iPad on the App Store. It's the full game, making it the first legit, main series Civ game to be released on mobile.

Sid Meier's Civilization VI helps break this trend by releasing on the App Store for iPad. When gamers reach the game's page in the App Store, the price will say "Free".

This version of the game doesn't have support for controllers, but smart keyboards are supported.

If you have never played one of Sid Meier's Civilization games, you don't know what you are missing.

Cities now physically expand across the map, active research in technology and culture unlocks new potential, and competing leaders will pursue their own agendas based on their historical traits as you race for one of five ways to achieve victory in the game. In the beginning, 2K Games launched this game on Windows PC and Mac in October 2016. It appears like the game developers have chose to push the title for sale on iPad devices as well. However, we are continuing to evaluate opportunities to eventually bring Civilization VI to other platforms. The rest is the same and now you can touch the options instead of using a mouse to guide them on screen. Also, no expansion packs are available yet, nor are any DLC options.
