Congresswomen Will Wear Black to President Trump's State of the Union Address

Female lawmakers plan to wear black to Trump's State of the Union

In that spirit, many in Hollywood donned black in solidarity with the #TimesUp initiative, and now, that trend is catching fire on Capitol Hill.

Women of the Democratic Party have vowed to wear all black to the State of the Union address later this month to show unqualified and unequivocal support to abolish sexual harassment on Capitol Hill, a place notorious for debauchery and unwanted sexual advances.

The presence of the special guests will serve as a silent rebuke of President Trump, who denied allegations of sexual misconduct by more than a dozen women during the 2016 election.

The move resembles those made by Trump leading up to the election when he invited the women who accused former President Bill Clinton of sexual misconduct to a debate with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

"Rather than listening to yet another destructive and divisive speech by Trump, I will not attend this year's annual address to Congress", he said in a statement.

Rep. Brenda Lawrence, D-Mich., plans to bring as her guest Danielle McGuire, a historian and author who has written about Recy Taylor, a black woman in Abbeville, Alabama, who was raped by six white men in 1944. Her assailants were never indicted.

It comes as the country has been rocked by the "me too" movement that has called out alleged sexual abuses after a string of women made public claims against Harvey Weinstein, the Hollywood mogul.

Two other Democratic lawmakers howling for impeachment, Reps.

And news reports today have stated that this overwhelming show of solidarity has inspired women in a different industry to wear black for another important event, the American State of the Union address.

There could be some awkwardness for the women in Trump's family.

This is not the first time the women of congress have coordinated their outfits of a cause.
