John Dickerson will replace Charlie Rose on "CBS This Morning"

John Dickerson Of CBS's 'Face The Nation' Is Set To Replace Charlie Rose

The announcement, from CBS News president David Rhodes on Tuesday, comes more than a month after Rose was sacked from the network amid allegations of sexual misconduct. It is unclear if Dickerson will continue to host the CBS Sunday news show as he joins "CBS This Morning".

CBS named television journalist John Dickerson on Tuesday to replace fired co-host Charlie Rose on the network's "CBS This Morning" news show.

"John's impressive track record and strong all-around journalism extends our commitment to real news coverage every morning at CBS News", Rhodes said in a statement.

Dickerson, who's moderated the CBS show "Face The Nation" since 2015, will fill the anchor seat vacated by veteran newsman Charlie Rose.

"Today is our sixth anniversary".

"This has to be the most popular decision that NBC News has ever made", said "Today" co-anchor Savannah Guthrie last week. "I've worked alongside John for nearly 20 years and this is a great way to continue our mission of putting the news back in the morning".

Dickerson, now host of the long-running Sunday public affairs show "Face the Nation", will "transition off" that program in the coming weeks, then a successor will be named, according to CBS.

CBS has been mired in third place in the broadcast morning show wars for decades.

Virginia native Dickerson, 49 - son of pioneering newswoman Nancy Dickerson - was a correspondent for Time and Slate before joining CBS in 2009 as an analyst before becoming political director.

CBS THIS MORNING has earned a prestigious Peabody Award, a Polk Award, three News & Documentary Emmys, three Daytime Emmys and the 2017 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast.

Dickerson is expected to continue his duties as Face the Nation moderator.
