The new Red Sparrow trailer featuring Jennifer Lawrence has finally been released

Red Sparrow

Murder abounds in Fox's new trailer for "Red Sparrow", starring Jennifer Lawrence as an icy spy.

The film is based on a 2013 novel of the same name by Jason Matthews, and revolves around a Russian woman (Lawrence) who is forced into the life of a "Sparrow", which essentially appears to be a secret agent/sleeper agent designed for exactly the kinds of missions you'd expect to involve a handsome young woman: Seducing generals, attending swanky soirees, occasional assassinations.

Despite drawing instant comparisons to Black Widow and last year's Atomic Blonde, Red Sparrow is its own demon.

"Dominika Egorova is many things".

As always, it's a pleasure to see Jennifer Lawrence on screen and Red Sparrow will certainly be no different, however the script will turn out. She is put into a no-win scenario where she must either accept training to become a Sparrow, or she will die. A devoted daughter determined to protect her mother at all costs.

Red Sparrow hits Irish cinemas on March 2nd. "A master of seductive and manipulative combat".

In the trailer, Lawrence's Dominika Egorova is sent to sparrow school, a secret intelligence service that trains young adults to use their bodies and minds as tactics.

The film also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, Ciaran Hinds, Joely Richardson and Jeremy Irons.

Dominika endures a perverse and sadistic training process, and emerges as the most risky, seductive and manipulative Sparrow the program has ever produced. Then she finds herself in a life-threatening situation where she must call upon all she has learned.

Lawrence is a talented actress who can pull off a Russian accent, to an extent, but it seems like this role will demand more internality from her - something she's struggled with recently in Darren Aronofsky's mother! I just thought, 'I'll never do that again.
