What's the Tide Pod Problem?

Is the 'Tide Pod Challenge' a Real Thing?

"YouTube's Community Guidelines prohibit content that's meant to encourage risky activities that have an inherent risk of physical harm", a Google spokesperson told CNN. "We work to quickly remove flagged videos that violate our policies", the spokesperson told HuffPost.

The manufacturer of Tide detergent pods said it's working with social media networks to remove videos that show people appearing to eat the toxic laundry packets as part of a so-called "Tide Pod Challenge". Because, the Internet, and likes, apparently. Now, YouTube is removing videos about eating the chemicals, describing the ongoing joke as "dangerous" as calls to poison control hotlines increase.

The American Association of Poison Control Centers has said that it had dealt with 39 calls in the first fortnight of 2018 regarding teenagers who had willingly ingested laundry pods, compared to 53 cases in the whole of 2017.

Like Cinnamon Challenge videos before them, Tide Pod Challenge videos feature a person attempting to eat an entire Tide Pod on camera.

Tide Pods have been the internet's forbidden fruit for weeks now, but a new crackdown on YouTube is trying to slow the meme's roll a bit.

At the start of the clip, the man squeezes out the soap from a tide pod and tries to vape. Now the government is getting involved to make the pods less attractive to children.

Procter & Gamble, makers of Tide said in a statement, 'Nothing is more important to us than the safety of people who use our products.

Along with the video site, Tide has also reminded people on their Twitter that Tide Pods are only used for "DOING LAUNDRY".

Patterson said they sold more than 50 of the Tide Pod donuts Wednesday, the only day they were selling them.

SiliconBeat asked YouTube parent Google how many videos the company has taken down so far, but the company has not responded.

Two of the deaths were young children, and the other eight involved elderly people with dementia. "Get teenagers to do their own laundry".

The best way to avoid the risks of this challenge is help your child realize just how unsafe the single-load laundry packets can be, says Carolyn Forte, the director of the Good Housekeeping Institute Home Appliances and Cleaning Lab.
