YouTube Has Put its Original Projects with Logan Paul on Hold

Entertainment | 21 hours

But critics continued to mount pressure on the platform to take more severe action, especially in light of Paul's other questionable behavior.

The 22-year-old said he felt ashamed and did not expect to be forgiven after filming in Japan's Aokigahara Forest - which is known to be a frequent site of suicides.

In Tuesday's statement, the company acknowledged that "many of you have been frustrated with our lack of communication recently". "You're right to be", its tweet said.

YouTube has severed commercial links with vlogger Logan Paul following global outrage at the publication of a video showing the body of an apparent suicide victim in Japan.

On Twitter, YouTube said it was "upset by the video" that was shared and "suicide is not a joke".

"As Anna Akana put it perfectly: iThat body was a person someone loved".

YouTube initially said the controversial video appeared to have violated its standards and that Paul's channel had been issued a strike (three strikes in three months leads to a channel's termination).

Additionally, YouTube has removed Paul from its Google Preferred program, which gives brands the ability to sell ads on the top 5 percent of creators on the platform.

We'll keep our eyes peeled for more updates from YouTube.

It wasn't until fellow YouTubers and the media began to call out Paul for the confronting video, that he himself deleted it.

The statement hinted at potential changes to YouTube's policies and algorithms.

With this in mind, YouTube's tweets could be seen as merely a half-apology for its role in effectively facilitating the spread of disturbing and offensive content.

The company originally responded with a lukewarm statement about how the company "prohibits violent or gory content", that didn't directly address the issue at hand.

Representatives for Paul did not immediately return requests from Reuters for comment. "We partner with safety groups such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to provide educational resources that are incorporated in our YouTube Safety Center".
