Amazon is rewarding Prime members for shopping at Whole Foods stores

Amazon uses cash back benefits to entice Prime members to Whole Foods

Beginning today, eligible Prime members will earn 5 percent cash back on Whole Foods purchases when using the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card, on top of the rewards already given everywhere else they shop, including 5 percent back on purchases; 2 percent back at restaurants, gas stations and drug stores; and 1 percent back on all other purchases. The announcement offers an opportunity to remind everyone about Prime, the fact Amazon offers a Visa card, Whole Foods, and the very generous "5 percent back" offer. Customers with the non-Prime version of the card will earn 3 percent back.

Amazon is leaving no stone unturned to rake in more Prime members, and channel those towards Whole Foods and vice versa.

Amazon's latest move since acquiring Whole Foods falls in line with CEO Jeff Bezos' ultimate vision for Prime, which he has previously said is to make its selection of rewards and offerings so plentiful that it simply becomes "irresponsible" for consumers not to sign up. The retailer paid $13.7 billion last summer for Whole Foods. The e-commerce giant announced last week that it will offer free two-hour delivery of Whole Foods groceries in four US cities. There is also now a Whole Foods online storefront on Amazon's website.

Amazon's Prime service offers two-day shipping plus video streaming and other perks for $99 a year or $12.99 per month in the United States. The e-commerce titan has been cutting prices and even began selling its Echo smart speaker device in Whole Foods stores. Amazon's call for a new inventory management system resulted in fewer items on the shelves.
