London mosque attacker jailed for at least 43 years

19 2017 forensic officers move the van which struck pedestrians near a Mosque at Finsbury Park in north London. A Crown Court on Thursday Feb. 1 2018 found Darren Osborne guilty of murder and attempted murd

The daughter of the man murdered in the Finsbury Park terrorist attack described his killer as a "narrow-minded, heartless being" yesterday as he was jailed for a minimum of 43 years.

Commander Dean Haydon, head of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, said: "From our investigation, it was clear that Osborne had planned to come to London with the intention of carrying out an attack against the Muslim community".

Osborne, from Cardiff, was convicted of terrorism-related murder and attempted murder for driving a van at high speed into a crowd of people near the Finsbury Park Mosque.

James O'Brien said the far-right and Islamic extremists are two sides of the same coin and are radicalised in the same way.

In her final sentencing remarks, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb praised Mahmoud for having allowed "the law to take its course", rather than allowing angry bystanders to take matters into their own hands.

In rented van with which Perpetro's attack, police found a handwritten letter from Osborne, which referred to Muslims as "rapists" and "savages" who "abuse our children".

Most recently in 2014, aged 44, he was convicted of charges of theft, attempted theft and shoplifting in South Wales.

Just after midnight Osborne saw a crowd helping 51-year-old Makram Ali who had collapsed at the junction of Seven Sisters Road and Whadcoat Street.

Ali's family sat in the public gallery at Woolwich Crown Court to hear Osborne sentenced.

"He chose to respond to evil with good", she said.

Speaking with "passion and anger", he is said to have told the soldier: 'I'm going to kill all the Muslims, Muslims are all terrorists.

"Our father, like the victims of most terrorism, was entirely innocent which makes his death in this violent way all the more hurtful and we can not imagine the trauma he felt in the last few minutes", she said.

The mayor was identified by loner Osborne during his trial when he told the court that counting Mr Khan among the victims would have been "like a lottery win".

The attacker said he had no idea Dave - one of his two made-up accomplices - meant to smash into a group of pedestrians, and believed they were on their way to a pub to meet a third co-conspirator, Terry.

Witnesses said Osborne shouted that he wanted to "kill all Muslims".
