Met Office issues snow warning for London with temperatures set to plummet

GETTYBritain is bracing itself for freezing Siberian winds and snow

For the best part of the next week, temperatures will rarely, if ever, rise to double figures while regularly dropping below zero, with Met Éireann warning of "exceptionally cold" conditions and widespread wintry showers by early next week.

"Having a family member, friend or neighbour who can help out can be vital in cold weather - helping with anything from putting the bin out to collecting a prescription or doing some grocery shopping".

Europe will experience a "Beast from the East" weather pattern next week as cold air is pulled from Siberia into the region and may cause snow over several days in the United Kingdom.

"Sea-effect snow will stream from east to west over the U.K. Monday into Thursday", Roys said.

The freezing winds are forecast to sweep in from Scandinavia due to the influence of a high pressure zone.

The cold will cause temperatures to plunge well below freezing in London, where snow is likely to fall during the next 1 to 2 weeks.

The Met Office has now issued two yellow snow warnings for the East of England and Scotland to settle in by the start of next week.

"This happens because we will have a prevailing westerly wind, when it arrives winds tend to separate and change track before meeting again from opposite directions". Add to this a strong easterly wind and it will feel more like -3°C to -7°C.

Another cold, dry and largely sunny day is expected on Saturday. Over the coming days, apart from an isolated shower, it's very unlikely.

Saturday night will be clear and cold with temperatures falling back to -1C.

"Sunday will be a dry and sunny day".

"Showers will bring a large variation in amounts of snow across even small areas with some places seeing very little".

Overnight, there will be severe frost and the risk of snow showers along the northern and eastern coasts - reaching lows of -2C to -4C.
